I always
loved putting little bits together to make something.
From sewing with my mom, jigsaw puzzles with my
grandmother or later quilting; watching little bits of color
come together into a creation is exciting.
Reminiscent of using every crayon in the box, the colored bits
of glass scattered across my workbench inspire me to find new
color combinations. Glass
is my adult crayon; the colors are saturated and rich of
translucent and watery. Light
plays into the combination of opalescent and translucent color
which expands the “box of colors” in my palette.
The complexity of my designs continues to escalate.
I very often create my own palettes by stenciling,
silk-screening and or combing crushed glass onto sheets of
glass and firing them. These
sheets are then cut up to be incorporated into the intricate
patterns. My
patterns come from many sources such as tiling, quilting and
even nature.
The
color and patterns enhance the rhythm and movement that the
light already bestows on the glass.
My Subject matter flows from doodles on my schoolwork
to my present day inspirations.
Although the pure and simple childhood visions are
still there, a message of time and experience lies beneath
them. However, no
matter whether figures, a tree or geometric pattern the love
is still in the creation, the combination, the doing, and the
final “a ha!” moment.
