JACQUES
CLÉMENT
Born in Montreal,
Canada.
Jacques Clément explores three-dimensional
forms, portraits, and, in particular the representation of
the human body.
Drawing by observation has been and
still is the main concern and the cornerstone of his creation.
However, having mastered this technical apprenticeship, he
ceased to simply reproduce what the eye would permit him to
see; he wanted to create his own language in order to utilize
his drawings as a medium of expression.
His assemblages of drawings represent
signs composing a visual alphabet. Lined up side by side on
a large surface of paper, they transform themselves into a
private diary, open to the public, by which he retains the
traces not only of what he feels and withholds visually of
his models, but also of a particular creation process, based
on time, duration, quantity, and assiduity.
